PCIA Professional Purchase Program

PCIA has a few ways for certified instructors to communicate:  your member profile, the PCIA forum and now, Facebook.  Sign in to PCIA.us to create your profile, and post information about yourself on the PCIA website.

Membership renewal

With the end of 2009 approaching, there are a number of members who have allowed their membership to expire or will expire in early 2010.

Please remember that your certification is not valid without current membership.  Expired members are excluded from member benefits, including professional purchase.

PCIA announces new member benefits – expanded professional purchase program

PCIA has expanded its professional purchase member benefits to include Outdoor Prolink, Five Ten, NEMO Tents, Osprey Packs, Mad Rock and Black Diamond Equipment.  We are in conversation with other companies and will add additional professional purchase agreements in 2010.  The new professional purchase program will be available January 15, 2010.

From Education Director Jon Tierney – Provider training update

PCIA hosted two Provider training workshops this fall season at the Wilderness Risk Management Conference and the AORE conference.  Each provider training had 3 participants involved.  Growing the pool of PCIA course providers is a primary goal, and PCIA is focusing on quality over quantity, carefully selecting provider candidates.  Candidates spent 2 days learning about the PCIA progression

PCIA hires Executive Director

PCIA has hired Will Friday to serve as its Executive Director.  Will has been involved with climbing instruction since 1984, and served on the PCIA Board of Directors since 2007.  Will is a PCIA CWI provider, and in the final stages of obtaining Outdoor Course Provider status.  Will is also the Associate Director of Outdoor Link, a southern California based outdoor education provider, focusi

Positive Language in Climbing Instruction

As PCIA instructors, we set out to provide participants with a positive experience. Instructor role modeling, communication and personality have an important effect on our students ability to learn in a supportive and positive manner. We are here to have fun!

Education Director's 2008 Report to the Membership

2008 has been a banner year for the PCIA. Only a year ago we announced the creation of the PCIA at the 2007 AORE Conference. The excitement was immediately apparent as outdoor educators across America approached us and thanked us for "taking the plunge." This year at AORE in San Diego it felt like everyone knew our name!
